Ristorante Ideale

Sheesh, I'm jet lagged pretty bad. Here is a meal with my mom at Ristorante Ideale, an Italian place across the street from Mo's. I've got 3 or 4 more SF entries then it's on to Asia (I swear!).

spaghetti alla carbonara - spaghetti with homemade pancetta, eggs, pecorino and parmigiano - $11.75spaghetti alla carbonara - spaghetti with homemade pancetta, eggs, pecorino and parmigiano - $11.75

fettucine ai funghifettucine ai funghi The fettucine was a special so I don't have a better description. Anyway, this place bills itself as a Roman-style trattoria. It turns out to be a solid Italian option... very close to the new place (but crappy parking in North Beach). The zucchini salad was excellent - probably the best dish of the night, surprisingly enough. It's similar to a zucchini salad from Jackson Fillmore which was also great. I guess julienne + truffle just make zucchini awesome. Carpaccio was average - good but unspectacular. The carbonara was very very eggy as you can see - it's almost like it was a pasta topped with scrambled eggs. The eggs were great but I like it a little more sauce-like. The pancetta was very good, but made the dish slightly too salty. The fettucine was homemade - great texture. I'd probably order a fresh pasta next time.

Cioppino's Enoteca

Went to an Italian place in Yaletown called Cioppino's Enoteca. It's a side part of a parent restaurant called Cioppino's which is only open for dinner apparently.

fettuccine with 4 hour braised veal cheek ragout fettuccine with 4 hour braised veal cheek ragout This meal was excellent. Starters were good. The tomatoes in my panzanella were really good - I guess it's the season now. The mozzarella was great too. The pasta was REALLY REALLY GOOD. Perfect texture and flavor. The veal was delicious. Geoff had a variation on carbonara using duck which was also very very good. The place is pretty expensive though.

Bertucci's

Went back to Bertucci's the other night for dinner, after a fairly long time of not going.

spinach & ricotta gnocchi spinach & ricotta gnocchi It was pretty good this time. They finally got rid of the olive oil explanation i was talking about, and instead they just give you a pre-seasoned dish of olive oil with lots of garlic and some stuff in it. It was good though. The gnocchi was alright too, but not really great. It's about the same as Pasta Pomodoro back home.

Carlo's Cucina Italiana

Went to Carlo's Cucina Italiana the other night. This past weekend was graduation weekend so a lot of people were having graduation dinners with their families. Seemed like every restaurant had a line out the door... Carlo's was no exception. Had to wait about half an hour, but we got to eat.

fettucine marysa - veal, prosciutto, peas, onions, fresh tomato sauce fettucine marysa - veal, prosciutto, peas, onions, fresh tomato sauce Solid again. Calamari was good... not too greasy, and good texture. The penne was alright. Tender chicken and pretty good sauce. The fettucine was pretty interesting with 2 kinds of meat. Sauce was pretty tomato-ey but like I said before, Carlo's does tomato sauce pretty well. Pretty sweet and tangy. The fettucine itself was very good. I saw a tortellini with pesto on the table next to me, and it looked really good... probably gonna try that next time.
